Bad Governance
The society as we see today has a long way to go to be any good. A construction has started in the Wakf board plot beside our house. They are constructing beside our compound wall and dont seem to care for any ethics, they say its Wakf property - a supposedly government agency for the community, seems like the Govt promotes un-authorized brazenly illegal construction

What sense it makes....

a. SCO has been blaming GorkLaw for it's troubles, it makes a cheap sense of responsibility, if you cannot own up your crap, better keep quiet
b. "SCO Gives Sun Blessings to Open-Source Solaris", for the first time I came to know that SCO own (some?all?most?significant?) code underlying solaris. The question now is "SCO Group Inc. owning the underlying code to Solaris, could Sun avoid the legal battles faced by other open-source Unix vendors?"
c. Great Reviews on the next MacOS especially its "spotlight" search feature
d. Heard of git kernel SCM, should explore it further

....new News
A few things that happened to me recently.
1.After a long stint at entrepreneurship( 3 years) I will be taking my first employment with Zensar this 28th(April).
2.I am writing an economics paper with Sriram, it is about International Monetary Systems, SDR and stuff. It should be ready in a week.
3.I am working heavily on SAS, courtesy the paper above I am writing.
4.Doing good work on stochastic stuff, thanks to Dr. Iyer ( A practical statistician)
5.Working on certain applications of mathematical models(?Confidential stuff?).
6.Winding up my client commitments before moving to ZenSar, a painful job.

a. My sister Annapurna is into XLRI, congrats to her!!!!, she is the closest to my heart.
b. My maternal grandfather expired today. He is a philanthropist and a philatelist. He was suffering with cancer.

It has been a long time since I posted anything, a lot of things happened, the part-2 of my previous blog never came, never mind, hope to make blogging a habit now. I miss a few things these days, a list:
1. The company of Dr. Bs. Ks. Chopra: He his now at sinhagad
2. Systems Dept.: I spend most time these days at qualcomm wireless lab.
3. Server Room: Servers are taking care of themselves.
4. Linux(!!!!): currently working with SAS on Windows.
5. Economist: Interest in it went with Dr. BsKs
6. Brainstorming with Anup: Ideas are now more crystallized.
7. Classes: I hate monotonous Theory, anyways I always have more important things to do.
8. Memory: because I miss a lot more that I cannot recount now(???!!!).

An Indian Thinks....
What is our core competency?

Can we ever see "Made in India" on common commodities?. We often see "Made in China", "Made in Taiwan", we see "Intel Inside", Intel is an American firm, We use Microsoft products everyday, it's American, Most of the "everyday commodities" we use today are invented in the "west" and made in the "Far East", this is our primary dependency, we depend on the "Middle East" for "Oil" and "Eurasia" for "Weapons". We depend on "Africa" for "Third World Brotherhood" and "Europe" for a "Security Council" seat. We depend on our immediate neighbours for feeding enough diversion to our politicians from pressing "Internal Issues", we are generous enough to own up the troubles of our neighbours and take the causes of historical friends. The simple question is
"What are we Good at?"
We have been consistently doing one thing (consistently) all along our recent history, (seeking to)solve others(not our) problems. That is what Software industry and the BPO in this "Bharata Varsha" do, provide solutions(Software) and help( take load off other firms). Next:
"Are we good at it?"
Not exactly, we are the only ones doing this because no-one does them at the price we do, we hire people of diverse professional backgrounds(enmasse), equip them with "Problem Solving" skills re-train them in "Current Technology Trends" ( though entirely un-related to their professional background) and deploy them like Patriots fighting Scuds.
"How dare you say...We are providing lively-hood to lakhs of people.. we are the best .."
I am extremely sorry to have conveyed the wrong impression, The whole nation is indeed grateful to you, I have a lot to explain. see you in part-2 of this thought process.....

Ganesha Chaturthi Story
This story is a common and must recital in south Indian households on the Ganesha chaturthi day:
"It is said that anyone who looks at the moon on the night of the Ganesh Chaturthi will be falsely charged with theft or a similar crime. If someone inadvertently sees the moon on this night, he/she may remedy the situation by listening to (or reciting) the story of the syamantaka jewel. This story may be found in the Puranas such as the Bhagavata and the Vishnu. Briefly, Satrajit, who secured a jewel syamantaka from Surya, did not part with it even when Krishna the Lord of Dvaraka, asked for it saying it would be safe with Him. Prasena, the brother of Satrajit went out hunting wearing the jewel but was killed by a lion. Jambavan of Ramayana fame killed the lion and gave it to his son to play with. When Prasena did not return, Satrajit falsely accused Krishna of killing Prasena for the sake of the jewel.
Krishna, in order to remove the stain on His reputation, set out in search of the jewel and found it in Jambavan's cave, with his child. Jambavan attacked Krishna thinking Him to be an intruder who had come to take away the jewel. They fought each other for 28 days, when Jambavan, his whole body terribly weakened from the hammering of Krishna's fists, finally recognised Him as Rama.
I now know You. You are the life in all creatures, virility, grit and strength. You are Vishnu, the Primeval Lord, All-prevailing, the Supreme Lord (of the worlds). (Bhagavata 10.56.26)
He Who built a bridge (across the ocean) that is a standing monument to His fame, set Lanka ablaze, and with His arrows severed the heads of Rakshasas, which fell to the ground.
As repentance for his having fought Krishna, Jambavan gave Krishna the jewel and also his daughter Jambavati in marriage. Krishna returned to Dvaraka with Jambavati and the jewel, and returned it Satrajit, who in turn repented for his false accusation. He promptly offered to give Krishna the jewel and his daughter Satyabhama in marriage. Krishna accepted Satyabhama as His wife but did not accept the jewel.
In the event one is not even able to listen to or read the story, the following mantra may be recited holding some water in the palm of the right hand. The water is then to be sipped.
*A lion killed Prasena; the lion was killed by Jambavan. Don't cry, O dear child! This syamantaka jewel is yours.* "

Who am I(?)
My profile has just little of me, indeed no man can completely describe
himself in a note, a man is described in a lifetime, none but he alone can
know himself completely, but often misses the opportunity.
My professional profile includes my asociation with the BhavyaOS project as it
Project Lead, I do freelance consulting on technology, computing in general
and linux in particular for enterprises, I also worked on enhancing
NiceTop(nicetop.net) into a Linux thin-client, other projects(...not limited
to) include a mosix implementation, I am currently helping in network
administration at International Institute of Information Technology, Pune,
where I am also pursuing my M.B.A in IT. My current interests include
MitraSys an enhanced GNU/Linux Desktop and Server environment, I am talking
to technocrats about how it should be and preparing business plans,
presentations seeking funds from Venture Capitalists and high networth
individuals
